The effects are felt almost immediately and wear off quickly after the mask is removed, allowing you to resume your normal activities shortly after your appointment.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed pill before your appointment, providing a deeper level of relaxation. You will remain conscious but feel calm and at ease during the treatment. This method is suitable for patients with moderate anxiety or those undergoing longer procedures.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is administered directly into the bloodstream by a qualified anaesthetist, providing a deeper, more controlled level of relaxation than other sedation methods. It’s an excellent option for patients who experience severe dental anxiety, have a strong gag reflex, or are undergoing complex or lengthy procedures. With IV sedation, you’ll enter a deeply relaxed, dream-like state—while still remaining responsive—and in most cases, you’ll have little to no memory of the treatment. This level of sedation allows us to complete more work in fewer visits, making it ideal for patients who require extensive dental care. Throughout the procedure, your vital signs are closely monitored to ensure maximum safety and comfort, giving you peace of mind while we care for your smile.

Pricing Information
At Blackwood Dental, we provide a treatment plan with indicative fees. As a guide:
Anaesthetist Costs: Prices vary from $600–$900. Medicare may cover $180–$300 of this fee. This fee is paid directly to our anaesthetist prior to the day of the procedure.
IV Facilitation Fee: An additional $220 is charged by Blackwood Dental in addition to treatment prices for each patient.
For patients with private health cover, please contact your insurer to determine if your insurance will cover out-of-pocket expenses.
